The Fahrenheit/Celsius formula
°C = (°F − 32) × 5⁄9, and °F = (°C × 9⁄5) + 32. These are exact conversions, unlike gas mark, which is a separate scale that doesn't line up with a clean formula against either — it's matched here against the standard published reference table instead.
A note on high altitude
Above about 3,000–3,500 feet, ovens often need to run 15–25°F hotter to help baked goods set their structure before they over-rise, but temperature is only one part of a real high-altitude adjustment — leavening amounts, sugar, and liquid typically need adjusting too, in ways that depend on the specific recipe. This calculator converts temperature scales only; a genuine high-altitude recipe adjustment needs more than a temperature bump.
Convection changes the number too, separately from any of this
If a recipe was written for a conventional oven and you're baking in convection (fan-assisted) mode, the common rule of thumb is to reduce the temperature by about 25°F (or 15–20°C) rather than adjusting for altitude or scale — that's a separate adjustment from anything on this page, and the two shouldn't be combined without checking your oven manufacturer's specific guidance.
